Photo Of The Week: Waikanae Beach | Gisborne NZ
Beautiful Waikanae Beach is located in the north eastern city of Gisborne, New Zealand. It is a great place to swim, surf and watch the sun go down. Gisborne is the first city in the world to greet the sun every day. It boasts a large stretch of coastline encompassing the Waikanae and Midway, Kaiti, Sponge Bay, Wainui and Makorori beaches.
A Stunning Sunset At Waikanae Beach
James and I were lucky enough to witness this gorgeous sunset at Waikanae Beach with family. We had ordered some tasty Turkish food in town and decided to eat it down the beach. It was a wonderful afternoon as I had not seen my aunts family and my grandmother for a long time. We took a couple of group photos and before I captured this photograph. It was a great way for James and I to finish our road trip across the North Island of New Zealand.
I did not get as much time there as I was hoping. There is so much to see and do in Gisborne and I have many places on my photography hit list there that I did not get to. When I go back I plan on visiting Eastwoodhill Arboretum. It is the National Arboretum of New Zealand and encompasses over 131 hectares planted in exotic and native trees, shrubs and climber plantings.
I visited the area years ago when I was shooting with film. It was an enchanting place and it quickly becomes obvious why so many people love to come and view the plants.
Gisborne is a place that is dear to my heart as it is the birthplace of my mother. I love how much James is falling in love with New Zealand also. We have vowed to live there one day.
