Photo Of The Week: The Meadow | Eden NSW
There is an interesting story behind ‘The Meadow’. This photograph nearly didn’t make it into my collection. I am glad it did as today it is one of my favorite photographs. When I look at it I think of home and the all the fun I had in the Australian bush growing up. I also think of the beauty of the iconic gum trees and majestic the one is in this image. It dwarfs the kangaroo standing in the sunlit patch of grass. There were over ten kangaroos in this meadow. I took a lot of shots and this one happened to outshine all of the others. I loved this image for personal reasons and was going to just keep it for myself. My mother insisted in be included in my collection and I am grateful to her for that, as it has been well received.
A Sunny Afternoon In ‘The Meadow’
One sunny afternoon I was driving on the dirt tracks surrounding Boydtown looking for some inspiration. The first thing that grabbed my attention was this beautiful gum tree. I pulled over and got out my camera gear. As I motioned closer to the huge tree I disturbed a mob of kangaroos. It didn’t take long before they all got back to eating grass and enjoying the last of the afternoon sun. The meadow looked so peaceful and warm. unfortunately I was stuck in the shade and was quite cold.
I took a lot of photographs, but this was the only one where a kangaroo actually stood up. Also, I did cheat a little by whistling loud enough to make them stand tall and and listen. Kangaroos do this when they hear a noise they are not sure
A couple of people have asked why I didn’t focus on the kangaroos more than the tree. I like that the kangaroo is so tiny in this image, it shows just how large the gum tree is.
