Photo Of The Week: Under Eden Skies | Aslings Beach
The last time I was in Eden on the NSW South Coast I went down to Aslings Beach to photograph humback whales. Later that afternoon I ventured down to their iconic ‘Rock Pool’ and captured this image. It was a wonderful afternoon and it reminded me why Eden is so unique and special. It really is one of the most underrated places in Australia. I might be a little biased because I grew up there, but it really is stunning. You can also go down to the beach and see whales and dolphins only metres from the shoreline. Now I live in Outback Australia I appreciate the place where I grew up. I also appreciate what a great location it is for photography.
Aslings Beach – Eden NSW
Aslings Beach is the main beach in Eden on the NSW South Coast, Australia. It is also the surf beach in town and has a man-made rock pool at it’s southern end. The other end of the beach connects to beautiful Lake Curalo, which has an amazing boardwalk. My first days swimming in the ocean were at the Rock Pool. My mum and her friends would bring us kids down and all I remember is how much fun it all was. I also remember how scared we all were of going into the tiny cave there.
Just around the corner from the Rock Pool is this small stretch of sand and an amazing place to snorkel. On a calm day the water along Aslings Beach is so clear and is the most amazing colour. During bad weather the surf can get quite big.
I love this beach and photographed it last year. I plan to photograph it every time I go back, which is about once a year at the moment.
