Photo Of The Week: Darwin at Dusk
I captured ‘Darwin at Dusk’ just before I became a professional photographer. It was taken when I was visiting one of my best mates in Darwin. Every time I look at this image I think of my friend and the time I had while there. I also think of how much I have learned as a photographer since then. So as you can tell this image holds a special place in my heart for some very personal reasons. I would like to dedicate this post to my dear friend Marice Augustine.
The First Darwin Photo In My Collection
Just before starting my photography business I spent a month traveling around Australia visiting family and friends. This took me to Victoria, New South Wales and the Top End of the Northern Territory. I had an amazing experience when I was up in Darwin. Spending time with friends was the sole purpose for this particular visit to Darwin. This left little time for photography, although I did make a some time to get one beach sunset photo.
I absolutely love fresh seafood and don’t get to eat much of it now I live in Alice Springs. So while in Darwin Marice took me to a cafe that sold the most amazing food. It was located right next to the beach. After we ate I walked down to take a look. As soon as I laid eyes on it I knew I had to come back at sunset and photograph it.
During my time as a tour guide I traveled to Darwin a lot and as you can image I took many photos. The reason they didn’t make the cut was purely down to their quality. Most of them were shot in Auto and all of them in JPEG. This left me with low resolution images that were not sharp.
I do have a couple of JPEG images in my collection today, but none of them are of Darwin. I only shoot in RAW format these days. It gives me more creative control over the quality of my work.
